The egg custard mooncakes from Spring Moon had its popularity. It usually sold out weeks before Mid-Autumn Festival. Yet, people found that shops in Sheung Shui, which are usually selling parallel goods, were selling Spring Moon’s mooncakes. The shop assistant said that they ordered these mooncakes from the official website. The mooncakes sold at $510 per box in Sheung Shui. According to the Peninsula, customers who used AE credit card to order the mooncakes at the promotion period, they can earn 15% off discount, which is $412.2 per box, the shop made nearly a hundred dollar of profit.
The Peninsula Merchandising Limited's mini egg custard mooncakes, featuring the signature recipe of Spring Moon, are also available in 70% of the grocery store in Sheung Shui. The Peninsula had offered the promotion of $304.2 for its mooncakes. The shop made a profit of $50.8 for selling each box of their mooncakes.
The reporter bought the Spring Moon’s mooncakes and The Peninsula 's mooncakes from Sheung Shui. Comparing to the authentic package of the mooncakes, there is no difference in terms of nutrition label, package bag, QR code and the promotion flyers. However, the expiry date of Spring Moon’s mooncakes will expire on 11th September, which is before the Mid-Autumn Festival.
Regarding to the parallel goods of mooncakes, The Peninsula indicated that they did not offer any mooncake promotion online. To protect the interest of the consumer, they suggested customer should directly purchase from the them.
