Last Saturday, the Farm Stay Health Education Promotion Association invited Lifewire cases to participate in a free charity workshop for making handmade coffee ground soap and sachets.

The entire family of Chu YatLong, who has Mucopolysaccharidosis, tried their hand at making handmade soap for the first time. Langlang's dad helped out while jokingly reminding Longlong not to burn his hands and turn them into "piggy hands."

Longlong's mom found it gentle, natural, and environmentally friendly, making it particularly safe to use for her younger son who suffers from chronic eczema.

Mok HoCheung, who has scoliosis, acted as the art director, guiding everyone on color mixing with precision and professionalism.
HoCheung's mom highly praised teacher Joan for being humorous and teaching so well; the soaps were smooth and fragrant when used for handwashing.

Everyone personally crafted their favorite coffee ground soap and sachet designs, which were exquisite, practical, and fun. They also learned about resource reuse and gained more environmental knowledge.

Globally, over 10 million tons of wet coffee grounds are produced annually. When they decompose, they release methane, exacerbating global warming. Making coffee grounds into soap and sachets can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions from food waste.

Reusing coffee grounds also offers three major benefits:
▫️Improve soil (contains nitrogen, promotes plant growth)
▫️Natural deodorizer (porous structure absorbs odors, keeps home fresh)
▫️Gentle exfoliant (granules remove oil and dirt, strong cleaning power)

However, what the children were probably most concerned about was what flavors of ice cream would be available before the end of the event.

Thanks to all the volunteer brothers and sisters for their help!

Hope to DIY again next time!
