Kwong Hoi-kei, a wheelchair user suffering from Neurofibromatosis type 1, atrial septal defect, and Moyamoya disease

Due to bone lesions and tumors growing along her nerves, her cervical spine has narrowed, putting her at constant risk of deteriorating into quadriplegia

In mid-April, she finally underwent two ultra-high-risk, life-threatening surgical procedures

Hoi-kei says that she entered the operating room at 8:00 AM that day, and the surgeries lasted until past 11:00 PM

A neurosurgeon removed tumors from her C1 and C2 cervical vertebrae

An orthopedic surgeon was responsible for the spinal correction from the C3 cervical vertebra to the T8 thoracic vertebra

During the process, 9 units of blood were transfused, and the procedures were completed successfully

After the surgery, Hoi-kei, who has a history of intracerebral hemorrhage and stroke, stayed in the ICU and relied on a nasogastric tube for feeding

She says her right hand is more flexible now than before, but her left hand is worse and cannot be lifted

Her head and body feel stiff like a board; she cannot move yet and requires a period of recovery

She is very grateful for the care from Lifewire

Please join us in sending support and encouragement to Hoi-kei, wishing her a speedy recovery
