Diagnosed with a spinal cord glioma at the age of two, Yeung Kaying has been paralyzed from the chest down with no sensation after surgery, and has only limited movement in her left hand. Despite this, she has loved music since she was a child and has overcome her physical disabilities to learn the harmonica, melodica, and glockenspiel.

Kaka says that music relaxes her and makes her feel better; even just watching others play the piano is healing for her.

Because of the weakness in her left hand, she thought she was destined never to play the piano, but she worked hard to defy that fate and is now preparing for her Grade 3 piano exam.

Her journey of learning the piano hasn't been smooth; due to her physical limitations, she could initially only play one note at a time.

Through diligent practice, she gradually managed to reach a five-note range, though her left hand becomes sore after about an hour of practice each time.

Over the past two years, she has practiced three to four days a week and memorized scores, overcoming obstacles through muscle memory.

She has even performed solos and piano duets at concerts.

Her current goal is to pass the Grade 5 exam, and if her left hand can handle more complex scores, she will continue to challenge herself with higher levels!

Kaka says that it is thanks to the donations from all the benefactors of Lifewire that she could afford an electronic piano to practice diligently at home, allowing her to chase her dreams starting from a single note. She sincerely thanks everyone.

The donations you make to [Lifewire], in addition to being used for medication, treatment, and medical equipment, also support them in realizing their dreams.

Every bit of your support is the strength behind a sick child's dreams!
