Valentine's Day is romantic and full of longing; a date that ruthlessly reversed her life.
18 years ago, Rabi returned to Hong Kong after graduating from her studies in Paris. Just as she was about to embark on a brilliant life, a ruthless car accident left her paralyzed below the shoulders, and she had to spend the rest of her life in a wheelchair.
Rabi, sitting in a wheelchair, is like a little giant. She refuses to accept her fate or admit defeat, and is reborn from adversity like a phoenix. Although her viewpoint is low, her vision is broader than others; she walks slower than others, but lives a richer life than others.
Even though the road is full of thorns, Rabi always faces it with a smile, influencing lives with her life and helping people with disabilities shine in society.
"The accident 18 years ago was my rebirth!"
"Once you leave the house, how could I have expected to not be able to go home for several years!" Valentine's Day in 1998, a bouquet of flowers, a wonderful date, everything was like a dream...Before Rabi has time to revel in her happiness, a sudden car accident shattered everything. Rabi opened her eyes, it was already two days after the date. In a daze, she only remembered falling asleep in the car after the date. Unexpectedly, she woke up and found herself lying in a hospital bed, unable to move. Once the doctor said "You may be bedridden forever", Rabi just kept muttering "It's fake, it's not real!"
She wanted to die but she could not even lift up the knife
Rabi couldn't believe it and thought that the nightmare would eventually end; but faced with her body unable to move, she finally collapsed, "It's over! I'm done playing!" Rabi lost her fighting spirit for a time, looking at a knife next to the apple, she had suicidal thoughts, ridiculously, She didn't even have the strength to reach for the knife. After sneering, Rabi gradually realized that death was not easy either; "If I can't die, would it get even worse than now"
The doctor told Rabi the cruel fact that she would never be able to walk again, but she "didn't admit defeat and doesn't believe in evil" and firmly believed that everything was possible, that the wound would gradually recover to a treatable stage. After half a year of physical therapy and exercise, the upper limb muscles and fingers were barely able to exert strength. Although she no longer needs to stay in bed for a long time, she will still have to use a wheelchair for the rest of his life.
Independence: Don't want to wait and wait to be fed
However, what made Rabi the most uncomfortable was the meticulous care and sacrifice of her family. "I wanted to get a glass of water, but they wouldn't let me; I wanted to go out by myself, but they said no. I feel like I have become a baby... I feel so useless and such a burden!"
"In the first one or two years, when I took the rehabilitation bus, I had to find someone to help me get out of the street first. It was so tiring and hard. I felt like a dog, waiting for others to take me out and feed me." She has always longed for freedom and knew that she had to overcome difficulties in order not to become a burden to her family. Therefore, she learned to drive and opened a design company, working hard to prove that she could be independent.
Although Rabi is in a wheelchair and has a lower view than ordinary people, her vision is broader than ordinary people. She is particularly aware of the lack of social supporting facilities: "Parking is a big obstacle. Getting out of the car is a big problem. It depends on whether there is a disabled parking space in the parking lot. If the parking space is parked, I have to find some space that can get out of the car. "Not all places have disabled toilets... You can find one, but it's dirty and filthy. so what do you do?"
Obstacles do not hinder the pursuit of your dreams
Even if she rides, eats out...she is discriminated against, she asked, "Why am I treated so specially?" Her self-esteem was damaged, but Rabi felt that discrimination came from a lack of understanding. "Once I took a taxi, the driver was very bad-faced and irritated. I felt very wronged and as if I was discriminated against. "I told the driver about my experience and feelings after the car accident. After listening, his attitude changed 180 degrees when he got out of the car. He showed a lot of concern for me. at that moment I really felt a lot”.
Since then, Rabi has been brave enough to share with others and has become more conscious of speaking out. So she joined the Direction Association for the Handicapped to stand up for injustice for the disabled; and through the association's volunteer work, she helped and inspired other disabled people to integrate into society, find their self-worth, and make their lives colorful again.
Rabi encourages “fellow travelers” not to lose hope due to diseases and obstacles, because everyone can still have dreams, appreciate and enjoy the beautiful things in the world, and obstacles cannot hinder one's life.
Heir to the Throne Is...
After the accident, whenever a man approached her and showed concern, Rabi would always question whether it was pity. Until her true love came along, she finally understood: "I can still also fall in love!" Recalling her boyfriend's heartwarming words: "Who doesn't have flaws? Your flaw may be that you can't walk temporarily!" Rabi smiled sweetly, she knew it wasn't sympathy, it was love.
