How does Lifewire help sick children? Lifewire was interviewed by RTHK Radio 1’s 《非常人物生活雜誌 》and will answer all your questions!
Patients with rare diseases are a group that is neglected in society. Due to the lack of support for them, Rochelle hopes to take action herself and fill the gap in society.,Rochelle is always seen in photos of her attending events.。“At that time, I thought that working full-time to help patients was a big attraction for me.” When Lifewire was first established, the entire company team consisted of only two people. As a senior media professional, Rochelle had almost no exposure to charity work at first. She believed that it was completely different from her previous media work. “Working in the media is indeed very hard, but later I discovered that doing charity work is even harder.”
The more patients you meet, the greater your feelings. After the visit, Lifewire does not end its relationship with the patients. The partnership is not like writing with chalk that can be easily erased."To some extent, you will become a counselor, dealing with many different problems in their future life or emotions."
“Although there may not be a cure for rare diseases, they now have different activities to participate in and experience the colorful world.” Some patients are unable to move or speak due to gene mutations, but Rochelle hopes that they still have the opportunity to realize their dreams and know that their lives are unique.
At present, Hong Kong still has no clear definition of rare diseases. Patients who cannot find the right medicine have nowhere to turn to, just like a trapped soul. Fighting for support for rare diseases is a long journey. Unfortunately, the biggest consideration for charities when applying for funding is often the number of beneficiaries. For Lifewire, whose goal is to help rare diseases, fighting for funds is like an impossible task, so it organizes different charity fundraising events every year.
Hong Kong is a small place, but there are countless charities. It is very difficult to survive in Hong Kong. Most citizens only have the confidence to donate money to some larger charities. When citizens may not know Lifewire, they may be discouraged. However, even if Lifewire still faces many difficulties in the future, everyone will still try their best to put sick children first and help patients with rare diseases.
"I just follow my heart. When I was working in the media, I just wanted to do something for our society, maybe expose some of the dark sides, and help society speak out, Until now working full-time in charity work, I was actually helping fellow patients to speak out and fight for something in return.
